Bucket Lists and Sisterhood Awards

Howdy!

Hope everyone is having a good Monday. I know I am so far. I have today off from work, for which I’m very grateful. My clinical rotation is going well so far and I anticipate staying tired for the next three weeks. So on my day off, before I get started with editing or writing (I haven’t decided which yet), I figured I should catch up on some recent tags. I’m doing two today, and will do two more on Thursday probably. I really think I’m missing one but I’ve spent the last 45 minutes trying to find all of the tags I remember from the couple months. So if you remember tagging me for something and don’t see it included in the posts this week, please remind me and I will do it! I promise! πŸ™‚

Sisterhood of the World – Tagged by Shantelle Hannu

What genre have you read most of this year?

Fantasy definitely. Unless you count lecture notes. πŸ˜›Β

Do you enjoy fairytales? Which ones do you like most?

Do I enjoy fairytales? YES! Beauty and the Beast is my very favorite, but I also like East of the Sun, West of the Moon.Β

Favorite dessert?

Ice cream cake made with chocolate chip cookies and mint chocolate chip ice cream. I’ve had it every year for my birthday for the past…long time, and I don’t see that changing in about three weeks. πŸ™‚Β

Which Disney princess are you most like and why?

I just went and took a quiz to see and I got Rapunzel. I don’t quite agree with the description, so we’ll disregard the result. I’d like to think I’m a little like Belle in that I’d most likely offer myself up to protect my family and I don’t want to settle for what the small town has to offer. Don’t get me wrong, bulging muscles on a guy can be super attractive, but they need a few extra brain cells. And of course, Belle and I share a love of books and desire for adventure in the great, wide somewhere.

Which Disney prince do you consider the most dashing?

I used to think Prince Adam, AKA the Beast was ugly, then I got older and was like Hellloooo!! But Beauty and the Beast aside, I do also like Flynn Rider, Kristoff, and Aladdin, who technically don’t start out as princes. Oh, well.

What was your favorite blog post this year?

Hmmmm……I really liked The Cosmic Cheesehead, in which I began the #BlogBattles. As far as posts by other people? I don’t know! I like reading everyone’s posts! πŸ™‚

A few books you hope to read soon?

Orphan’s Song by Gillian Bronte Adams, Song of the Wren Falcon by Mary Ruth Purselley, and I really want to re-read Blood Song by Anthony Ryan so I can finally read the sequel Tower Lord that’s been sitting on my shelf since Christmas.

Favorite book of the year?

Tough one. I’ve read some really really good ones this year. But I’d probably have to go withΒ Dare by Tricia Mingerink.

Summer or winter?

Summer definitely. It gets really hot down here in west Texas, but I’d rather the heat than the cold.

One goal you have?

One goal? Right now I’d have to go with successfully graduating from PT school and passing my licensure exam. Two years to go!

Thanks for the tag, Shantelle! πŸ™‚ Since it only took me forever to do this tag, I won’t tag anyone else. πŸ™‚

Authorly Bucket List – Tagged by Deborah O’Carrol

This one has rules. List three to seven things you’re not very good at, and another three to seven you’d like to try. Erk. Here we go.

Not very good at…

Deep Character POVΒ

Haha! I’m really working on it. The problem is I know what my characters are feeling, I just have to let the readers in on it. So far I think Adela’s Curse is taking a step in the right direction. πŸ™‚

Pacing-Β Sometimes I forget that it’s ok to slow things down a little. I like adventure and action and I tend to pack it all in. So yeah, slower scenes can sometimes be harder for me to write.Β

Bad guys –Β Now my sisters usually agree that my bad guys are really creepy or sometimes hilariously evil. But I think I need to work on giving them reasons behind being bad, other than evil for the sake of being evil.Β

Things to Try…

Fairy Tale Re-tellings –Β I love them so much. I’m in the process of attempting a Sleeping Beauty re-telling (more on that this Thursday!), and I have ideas for a series of at least three loosely-based-on-fairy tales books that use male leads instead. Maybe I should add writing female protagonists to the list above…

Steampunk –Β There’s something that’s just really fascinating about steampunk. I have a vague idea for a story, but we’ll see if it ever happens. I have a lot of other ideas to tackle first. πŸ™‚Β

Time travel –Β I’d probably end up confusing the heck out of myself and anyone unfortunate enough to read it, but since I enjoy reading books or watching movies that involve time travel and trying to figure it all out, it might be fun to give it a shot.Β

Thanks for the tag, Deborah! Tagging – no one because, like the tag above, it took me forever to do it. But if you want to give this one a shot, please consider yourself tagged and link back to the comments so I can see your lists!

Before you leave, go check out the blogs of my awesome taggers! They’re both great writers and bloggers! πŸ™‚ And this is my 100th post on this blog!!!! *confetti*

  1. Super evil bad guys? Yep, totally have the same problem. I really, really, really struggle to write a bad guy that isn’t so evil he is downright creepy.

Thanks for the mention! Little bit in awe that of all the books you’ve read this year, you’d pick mine!

  2. Interesting. I like it. And I might have to give one of them a try. Not the traveling pants one. No one wants that. LoL. Does it matter that I’m a guy and that’s a sisterhood? Might rule me out….. πŸ˜€

  3. Eep, happy 100th post!!!! πŸ˜€ That is awesome, congrats! ^_^ And yay, you did the tag! Loved reading both of these. Now I want an ice cream cake like that! O_O

Ooh, are you doing Sleeping Beauty for the Rooglewood contest?? πŸ˜€ I LOVE THE IDEA OF FAIRY TALES WITH GUYS. (I totally should have put “female protagonists” on the list of stuff I need to work on too! o.o Glad I’m not alone! XD) I have the opposite pacing problem where I never have interesting/actiony stuff going on. πŸ˜›

  4. Great post, Claire!! I had fun reading it! πŸ˜€

Your birthday ice cream dessert sounds absolutely delicious!! (However, that’s kind of a problem, since I can’t have wheat. Or dairy and sugar right now. Haha!)

Great princes!! πŸ˜€ And yeah, Belle seems to be the one the writerly women see themselves as, πŸ™‚

Ah, Dare was fantastic, wasn’t it? I can’t wait to read Book 2!!

And I totally get what you mean about rather bearing the heat than the cold! Summer is my absolute favorite!! ^_^

Again, wonderful post! So glad you were able to do it! πŸ™‚ Blessings!!

    • Dare is awesome! πŸ™‚
Are the dietary restrictions temporary? I imagine it might be hard to get around some of it.

Thanks for commenting and the tag! πŸ™‚

  5. Ice cream cake is my fav! I’ve never seen a mint chocolatechip ice cream cake before, oh my, I must try one! Where do you buy them?
    Congrats on 100 posts!!!
I reached a 100 too, and forgot to tell anyone, lol. πŸ˜› Oh well. πŸ™‚
Evil villian characters are not easy to figure out, haha, I totally know what you mean.
I should speed up my pace; I guess I have the opposite problem, and need to add more action! πŸ˜€

    • Haha! I refer to it in my head as “the next great YA novel”. lol!! We’ll see if it ever gets written. I want to, but I need to prioritize some projects before I get to.

Ummm….I don’t know. Artwork, tv show episodes themed around the genre? It sounds cool to begin with and I just like the idea of mashing old and new styles and technology together to create something. πŸ˜‰
