Howdy!

I have some bad news. You know how I said that I would be publishing my novella, Adela’s Curse, sometime this Fall? Weeeellll…..that’s probably not happening.

Reasons-

  1. My sister who is a fabulous artist started working on the artwork for the cover late this summer and then decided she had to go start a new semester to further her education or something. What is that about? 😛 So, the lovely cover is sitting almost done as she slogs through a packed semester. Rest assured, I will be pestering her non-stop when she gets back into town in December.
  2. I still need to do some last bits of editing. Since I’m self-publishing, I want it to be as good as my poor skillz can make it. And I need to make sure I have everything in place for follow up books I have planned.

In reality, this is probably a good thing. I haven’t had much time to do the necessary editing and figure out formatting on a program I have never ever used before. I gave my newsletter subscribers a general time frame of this Winter. Before Christmas? Probably not.

This will hopefully give me some time to work up some short stories to introduce the characters to you. *fingers crossed*

So, if you have any tips for self-publishing, I’d love to hear them!

How is NaNo going for everyone? Power on and write for those of us who don’t have the time! 🙂

I’m also experimenting with different fonts on the blog. What do y’all think?

    • Thanks! I hope so! It’s probably a good thing it’s delayed until break. That means I’ll have the time I need to spend on it to make sure it’s the best it can be. But it is a little frustrating to be set back. Oh, well. Such is life. 🙂

  4. Nice post! As you may know, I’ve just self-published my own novella 😉
    It’s been a long hard slog learning how to format and use Createspace. I’m not used to using all these computer techniques, but I’ve finally managed to get a hard copy sorted.
    If you have any particular questions, send me a DM or message on wordpress and if I know the answer I’ll share my knowledge, or what little I’ve gained anyway! 🙂

  5. Better late than never. 🙂 Sometimes it’s best to wait and make a project as good as possible. NaNo is going okay. Just keeping up with the wordcount.

    • Glad NaNo is going well! Wordcounts like to run away from me so daily wordcounts are hard. You can do it!!

      Yup. I’m hoping that this setback means that I’ll be able to spend a good amount of time on it before I publish. 🙂

  6. I understand how you feel, pushing back the publishing date. It’s what I had to do too, ugh. But it really is a good thing, like you said, having that extra time to perfect the story. Editing is one of the most important things, and it really does take a long time to thoroughly do it right–at least for me, anyway. Maybe I’m just slow though.
    The short stories to introduce us to characters sounds like a fun idea! I’m sure that will tide us over until you are ready to publish. 🙂 I have several lists of articles to help self publishers out on my blog’s page: Author/Writer Guide. I hope the tips help.     • I tend to rush things and think everything is perfect when it’s really not. So I think this is good for me. 🙂

      Ooh! I’ll have to go check out those articles before I do anything. I’m looking at using creatspace and haven’t ever tried formatting anything, so I’m sure that might take some time to get everything worked out. I’ve heard it’s easy, but I’m sometimes an idiot when it comes to computery things. 🙂

      • I used createspace for Bleeding Heart, and their simple directions helped a lot. I’m actually going to look into using IngramSpark instead for future books though. Main reason: I hear their quality is the best, and I was dissapointed by createspace’s printing of some of my copies. And I want my books to be able to get onto bookstore shelves–IngramSpark is more geared to doing that from what I’ve read.
        *One thing I learned the hard way: because I didn’t buy my own ISBNs for Bleeding Heart, the book will never be accepted onto physical bookstore shelves. :/

          That’s good to hear that createspace has easy directions. 🙂

            IngramSpark is worth checking out. I think you could use both that and createspace, as long as you use createspace for Amazon store only and use the distributers of IngramSpark for everywhere else. 🙂 Other authors have done that.
