I’m almost a little bit sad to be sharing this post with you today because it marks the end of one of my favorite book series. That being said, I’m till super stoked about this book and will take this last chance to fangirl your ears off. 🙂

My Review

From book 1 when Leith mentions that Martyn is the only person who would care what happened to him, I wanted to know his story. This only intensified through books 2 and 3 when both Leith’s and Martyn’s choices threaten their friendship. This is finally Martyn’s story.

We’re dealing with the aftermath of book 3. The rebellion is over and a better king on the throne, but for our beloved characters, the hardest part of their journey might be in front of them. Please see the blurb for the tragic details.

Leith, Renna, and Brandi continue to shine. Renna and Brandi find their way home and set about rebuilding. Leith finds a real home for the first time and must decide how far he’s going to go to protect it. There’s a few moments where his past as a Blade rears its ugly head, but generally we’re still wanting to give him hugs and telling him to make it right with Martyn.

Martyn is also in need of hugs. 🙂 I love seeing him go from a surly sarcastic person to grudgingly doing the right thing to risking it all. Loved his arc, at times hilarious, and at times heartbreaking as we get a closer look into what it was like to serve Respen.

We get some new characters, who are terrific. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve disliked any of Tricia’s characters. Yes, even the bad guys. 🙂 And there’s more of Ranson and Jamie getting to be regular human beings/teenagers, which was a-dorable.

The ending was satisfying. The messages tremendous. And everything wrapped up just enough that I’m hoping for some more stories later on down the road.

This concludes a fantastic series that I highly recommend if you love Christian fantasy or even just spectacular fantasy in general!
