Off To Camp!

Sort of. So I was invited by some other author friends to join their cabin for Camp NaNo (less intense version of National November Writing Month). At first I thought I would have to decline because of summer school and my crazy schedule but then I realized heeey! I’ll be on my clinical rotation for most of July so I can participate!! Β Much excitement. Then came the decision what do I work on? I have at least two stories that have been put on hold for a while now, one to be transcribed and edited, and the novella that I want to publish needs to be edited too. So why not start a new project?!

I saw the announcement for the Rooglewood Press fairy tale contest a while back and thought I might try my luck with that. It’ll be my first actual re-telling attempt (although I have several ideas for fairy tale based stories with male leads. More on that waay later). I’ve set myself a modest goal of 10,000 words. I’m making myself wait until next week to start writing because I have to get through finals and get packed and drive up to Dallas/Ft. Worth and get ready for my clinical.

So, the next question might be what my story entails. Well I can tell you that it basically is Sleeping Beauty meets Brave with a dragon thrown in. There will of course be updates on writing progress and I’ll share some excerpts and we can all see if that particular mixture works. πŸ™‚ Tentative names right now are The Highland Princess or The Sleeper in the Standing Stones.Β

I have also realized that this is the first actual bloggy post thing that I’ve written in a while that doesn’t include a story or book tours in it. Not that any of those things are bad. I am after all pretending to be a writer and I love helping other authors out. I just got pretty wrapped up in it all for a few months. I went from posting maybe 2-3 times a month to sometimes 4-5 times a week! Calm down, Claire. So I made myself a schedule and it’s one that I intend to stick to from now on. I think Thursdays will be my posting days, Tuesdays go to the #BlogBattles, Saturdays to the serial story, and Mondays and Fridays are reserved for bookish posts. I probably won’t be posting every Thursday but I have been tagged for some more things recently that will require my eventual attention.

Wish me luck on my first ever attempt at NaNo in any form! And let me know how interested you would be to hear about my new project and which name you think sounds best!

  1. Yay for Camp Nanowrimo! I’m not “officially” doing it this year, but I’m doing it on my own. πŸ˜‰
Also, I NEED to read this story. Whenever you need beta-readers…. *waves frantically*

  2. Lol, I’m in Camp too, and my word-count’s the same as yours. Tell me, have you gotten to the ‘panic’ stage yet? I’m already ahead of myself on that count. XD

  3. I like both titles! But if I had to choose, maybe The Sleeper in the Standing Stones, because it sounds more unique, and my brain doesn’t jump ahead to any conclusions about the story. I definitely want to learn more about this new tale and help out!
Haha, the best time for new projects is when you are already overloaded with other projects, didn’t you know that? πŸ˜› πŸ˜‰

  4. Good luck on NaNo!! I hope your story works excellently for you! YAAY FOR NANO!! I did my first Nano in November last year and it was totally awesome. XD I haven’t tried for any of the Camps yet, though, because the cabins confuse me buuuut one day I’ll get up the courage. ANYWAY. GOOD LUCK. *feeds you virtual marshmallows since it’s a camp*

    • Thanks!! πŸ™‚
Official NaNo scares me. I don’t know if I have that many words inside me to write in a month. πŸ˜› Maybe one day I’ll give it a shot! Thanks for stopping by!
