Howdy!
I never got around to doing a 2017 recap. But here’s basically how my 2017 writing year went.
Over my Christmas break, I sat down and outlined my 2018 writing goals. Which seem fairly lofty at this moment, given that I’m already behind on my Jan word count…. BUT, my oldest sister is awesome and also on writing deadlines, so we’re going to be accountability partners. I’m excited. This, and some spreadsheets, and wordtracker pages, should keep me on target. Plus some readers that have already asked me personally about The Wolf Prince.
So! Here goes. I’m going to finish The Mountain Baron by February. I will finish edits on The Wolf Prince by March and return it to my editor in May/June. Which means publication will be some time this fall!! I will revise Worldjumpers by April (which means I’ll be looking for beta readers…) and turn it over for edits in August. Which means a possible publication next year! ๐ Also, on the table are outlining and writing two new books (including the 3rdย Faeries book!)
Yes. I shall be busy. But I’m looking forward to it. And by posting all this here, I’m inviting you all to be my accountability partners as well. Which gives you permission to ask/hound me about any of the above projects you are interested in! Also, I shall be updating my WIPs page throughout the year to reflect the changes in these goals, so if you’re not sure on any of them, just take a look.
I’m also attempting to participate in #WIPjoy this month withย The Mountain Baron, so if you’re on Twitter, follow along! I’ll also be posting some of the prompts on Facebook as well. Maybe even Instagram if I get around to graphics. lol!
As far as life goals this year? For sure go to Realm Makers in July! Continue loving my job. Maybe sneaking away for some short, epic vacations somewhere. I have no idea. I need to be better at planning ahead. ๐ The only thing I have planned right now are my writing goals.
Also in there, I would like to get back to sending out my newsletter regularly. I’d also like to send out some bonus short stories for subscribers, so question time! If you subscribed, would you like to see short stories from existing published works (character shorts, “behind the scenes” scenes, etc) or completely new and unrelated short stories?
What are your plans for 2018? Have you adapted to writing/typing 2018 yet?
For 2017 I may waaaaay too many unrealistic goals. Like, writing or editing a complete story each month. I didn’t got all that accomplished, of course, but I did learn from it. So I hope this year I’ve made better goals for my writing.
Personally, I love short stories from already written works. I dunno, they just make me smile. Probably because I already know the characters and love them.
Speaking of which, I’m reading TRoA now, and I’m LOVING EVERY WORD OF IT!!!! I love your writing style (the first author that comes to mind is G.A.Henty??) and the Phoenix Guard and the characters and Emeth and akdsfjaksjfhlaskjfd

I’m hoping I didn’t overshoot with my goals this year. It’s the first time I’ve sat down and listed out the goals and timelines for each, so we shall see. ๐
I agree with you. I like short stories with established characters a little better since we already know them. ๐
Ah! Yay! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! What’s funny is that another reader/reviewer also compared it to GA Henty, and I have never read one of his books. lol! And yes, join the Emeth fan club. He has quite a few fans. ๐

Thanks! It was fun keeping track of all my writing this year and seeing how much I actually can write. lol!

I’m still getting used to writing 2018. ๐
This reminds me, I should go over my writing goals for the year, too, and make a list (something to keep me accountable).

Lists are simultaneously frightening and helpful. lol!
I’m not quite used to it, either. Although I’m just shocked/sad that January is almost over…
