Freebie Friday

A writer friend of mine and fellow Texan, Sarah Holman, has asked if I’ll be part of her street team. Of course I said yes! I’ve featured one of her books on here before and I’m pleased to do it again. Her short story, Waltz Into the Waves will be free on Amazon starting today for the next five days. I’ve had a chance to read a short excerpt and it sounds really good! Click the image and go check it out!

Now, this has given me a little bit of an idea. Why not occasionally share books with y’all that you can get for free? Providing of course that you have a Kindle. As mentioned previously, this will happen only occasionally, usually with books I have read and can safely recommend. This requires me to be rather proactive and let’s be honest, some days I don’t know what that word means.

So today for the first Freebie Friday I’ll continue in the fairy tale theme. First up- an author I’ve recently been exposed to- K.M. Shea. She does fairy tale re-tellings that are amazing! They are well written, absolutely hysterical, and have some great female protagonists. She has made me love Cinderella (tied at least favorite princess with Snow White). Here’s her Beauty and the Beast, which I loved so much I immediately bought the paperback as soon as it became available. This is available at no cost if you have Kindle unlimited (but honestly it’s worth the Kindle price.) Click the cover for the link.

Once upon a time Elle made a mistake. A small miscalculation sends her through the roof of an enchanted chateau. Stranded until her broken leg mends, Elle is forced to rely on the good will of the sour chateau owner —the cursed Prince Severin.

Prince Severin—the commanding general and staunch supporter of his brother the crown prince—is cursed to look like a beast until a maiden falls in love with him. However, he has given up all hope of shattering the curse after several painful and failed attempts to break it. As such he has only disdain for Elle, leaving her to the devices of his bossy servants. This suits Elle perfectly as she dislikes the entire royal family, Severin included.

Unfortunately for the unsuspecting pair, the chateau servants are determined to break the curse and spend the majority of their time pushing Elle and Severin together. After bonding over gardens, animals, and terrifying squirrels Elle and Severin show signs of friendship, and perhaps something more…

But not all love stories can end that easily. After all, Elle is not what she seems, and Severin’s life is placed in danger when hostilities flare between his brother and the monarchs of a neighboring country.

If they really want the love of a lifetime Elle, a loyal liar, and Severin, an indifferent beast, will have to use every trick they know to survive.

Next- Another Beauty and the Beast by Jenni James (because let’s be real- Belle is the best princess.) OK, I haven’t read this one, but I am interested in her Rumplestiltskin. This one happens to be free. I know a few other people who have read some of her faery tale collection and they seemed to like them. Click the cover for the link!

A prince by day and a wolf by night—

Prince Alexander has been turned into a werewolf and has one year to find someone to love the beast and break the spell, or he will be a wolf forever. He has nearly given up achieving the impossible, knowing no girl would ever fall in love with such a monster.

Just when he is about to abdicate the throne to his cousin, he meets Cecelia Hammerstein-Smythe, while a wolf, and begins to hope for the first time in months. Can he balance both worlds as a human and beast, gaining the love and trust of a girl who has every reason to despise him?

Cecelia detests the prince. She only knows Alexander as the arrogant monarch—the tyrant who has made her life miserable—though perhaps he’s changed right before her eyes. He’s not as full of himself as he once was. The prince is gentle now… but then again, so is the beast.

Let me know what you think about this first attempt at Freebie Friday! I’ll try and include some reviews on books I’ve read. Like I said this will come sporadically, but let me know if there are books you’d like to see featured or if you know of books for free, pass me a line and I’ll give them a look!

  1. The second B&B is the only one of these particular stories that I’ve read. It was pretty good, the author is great at twisting fairy tales, but she can also beat a dead horse (especially when it comes to declarations of love.) I’ve read three and a half of her books. (I keep getting stuck on the Sleeping Beauty one, and I’m not sure why.)

      • Oh, they are good. Excellent twists on the tales

The Rumplestilskin has been (so far of the ones I’ve read) the one with the most overdone romance. Nothing happens beyond kissing, but I’m going to say at least a quarter of the second half the book is monologues of how wonderful the two main characters find each other. Very sugar-sweet. The Frog Prince was better, but reused a lot of elements from B&B, so I wasn’t wowed by it. They aren’t my favorite retellings, but they’re good snack reads.

Please leave a comment! I try and reply to all of them. Just keep it clean and relevant to the post. Stay shiny!
