Howdy!

Warning before we proceed. Today is a fangirl type post. Two years ago, I stumbled across Crosshair Press and their associated imprint Steel Rigg Books. And so began my discovery of the Destiny Trilogy by A.C. Williams (co-founder of Crosshair and Steel Rigg). I quickly fell in love with the characters and fangirled to the author and one of her co-founders, online (and in person). These books are the kind that you think you’ll only read a few pages and then nine hours later you’re finishing the book**.

So today I’m helping out with the release tour for book 3 (and sadly final book) in the Destiny Trilogy! My review will be a bit further down in the post, but first about the book!

Can she face the constant reminder of all she has lost? And if she keeps the child, will Snow and Rain continue to shelter her? Without their protection, Knightshade will find her, take back the time stone, and rewrite history for their purposes.

My Review

5/5 Stars!

I was told that this book was the rich dark truffle that would make me forgive AC Williams for the emotional trauma of book 2, to which I replied “it better be a big damn truffle”. And it was.

I loved this book. Because of heartbreaking events in book 2 we basically start with a new set of characters. Namely the mercenary sisters Rain and Snow Stormcloud. I love them and their sass and kickbutt ways. It takes them a bit to warm up to Aura, but then they completely take her under their wing. And so begins the transformation of Aura Morningstar. She learns how to protect herself, becomes so much more confident, all while trying to deal with the psychological fall out from what the super creeper Darien Stone did. I loved her character before, but in this book she really comes into her own. She breaks a few noses and has some hilarious internal monologues.

Which leads into one of the best parts of the story – her baby. It has a very good message as Aura decides that its not just the child of rape, its God’s child and its going to be hers. Plus you get Rain trying to help her figure out a name for the baby (it’s worth reading the book just for that scene), and you also get the prickly mercenaries being the cuddliest surrogate aunts in the galaxy.

The other thing I adored about this book I can’t really talk about without major spoilers, but the last ~1/4 of the book was the middle of that dark truffle I mentioned earlier. So. Much. Happiness.

Only complaints – there were plot things we started off the book with and then a new plot line about the middle that never got wrapped up. And I’m pretty sure that there’s going to be more books in this particular universe, so I’m sure its just setting everything up for those, but still I really wanted to know why things were happening and what the guy wanted the AL units for!!

So, if you’ve read any of the Destiny trilogy, finish reading so you can experience this book, because believe me, it’s worth it. I still have a certain character shaped hole in my heart though.

Content Warning: Like the other two books, there’s a fair amount of language, no profanity or really “strong” words like the F-bomb though. Sex is mentioned and there are some innuendos thrown around. Aura has some flashbacks and nightmares from when she was raped, but overall I’d say this book was a little tamer on that score than the previous two.
