News From The Writing Desk…Couch

Howdy!

Hope everyone had a happy and blessed Easter! I got to spend time with family, so my weekend was simultaneously fun and exhausting. lol!

And I’m just now getting around to writing a blog post for the week. Which I almost forgot about. Shhh…

UPDATES!

I have almost finished the last tiny edits for The Wolf Prince and it will be going back to my fantastic editor May 1! Which means that I might actually have a new release coming end of summer/beginning of fall! Which makes me really happy!

First round of revisions for Worldjumpers has been finished! I have a few things to go back over and then I will be ready to send it out to beta readers in the next month or so! (So if you want to be on the list, comment below or keep an eye out for a post. πŸ˜‰

I’m doing Camp NaNo this month! It was kind of a last minute decision, but I have decided IΒ WILL finish The Mountain Baron this month!! My goal is 10K which I hope will finish off this terrible beasty. Cause I’m tired of scrapping plot lines I thought for sure were going to work. πŸ˜›

I’m also attempting to keep up with #WIPjoy, the hashtag game created by the lovely Bethany Jennings on Facebook and Twitter, so you can follow along for sneak peeks and snippets of The Mountain Baron! Though I admit, I usually stop about halfway through the month, so maybe doing Camp NaNo will inspire me to keep up with it.

The winners for Rooglewood Press’s Five Poisoned Apples contest have been announced (as of last Saturday). While my entryΒ Threads of Yellow, Blue, and Red did not win, it was an honorable mention! Which I was really happy about since there were something like over 150 stories entered.Β  And I know some of the winners which is super cool and I’m so excited for them (SKYE!!!) The feedback I got from the judge was also really great. My final score was a 54/60, which made me happy, and the main thing the judge said was that I needed to expand the worldbuilding/magic/background more, and that I probably had too much story for the wordcount (20K max). Which, considering my first draft came in at 19,998, she’s probably right. πŸ˜› It’s in the hands of some beta readers (other lovely contestants) and I’m still trying to decide what to do with it.

That’s all the writing updates. Here’s some life things going on.

I have started working out again, but Lent just ended so I have like zero self control with eating my Easter chocolate. I’m just going to blame it all on editing and Camp NaNo.

I routinely have flawless Frozen duets with one of my kiddos (patient) and it makes my day every time. We also have hair flipping contests and tbh she’s better at it than me.

I will be at Dallas Fan Expo this weekend!! I have like a bazillion first editions of all my books to sell, so I’m excited to head out to a new convention and try to burst out of my introvert shell and sell some books. πŸ™‚

I have discovered that I am a little obsessed with writerly mugs?? Like I don’t even drink hot tea, coffee, or hot chocolate, but I have started buying them anyway? Well, mugs mean smaller ice cream portions, so there you go.

And like it’s April already?! What is happening to this year? Someone help. I need a time machine. One to make time go slower please.

LAST thing! The Rise of Aredor will be discounted to $0.99 this weekend, from 4/5-4/7. So head over to Amazon and grab your copy or spread the word if you’re so inclined. πŸ˜‰Β

Also, I’m starting to get really excited for Avengers: Infinity Wars!! Anyone else??

    • Thanks! I was just excited to have made it that far! πŸ™‚ And yes, happy with the feedback, although this one is not so much jumping up and down to be added to. lol! We’ll see what the beta readers say…

  1. Hi Claire! Congrats on the honorable mention for your contest story! Came across your blog from the Rooglewood FB group (though I’m not a regular poster :). Looked around your site and love your passion for fantasy stories, which I share – I’d love to check out more of your writing!

I am also very stoked for Infinity Wars πŸ˜€

  2. Congrats on the honorable mention. πŸ™‚ Quite an achievement.

I am also supposed to be doing Camp – but haven’t quite managed to actually start the writing part yet! I need more hours in the day. And also, yes to the time machine that makes time go slower. o_o

  4. Ah yes, here’s the follow-up on the comment I made on the other post. (This is what happens when you’re late commenting on all your friends’ blogs.) XD Congrats on the Honorable Mention! I look forward to reading your story at some point; I’m sure you’ll publish it eventually. Hopefully soon. πŸ˜€ And I did buy The Rise of Aredor while it was on sale–I intend to read/review all your books this year.

I’m very excited for Infinity War…but I probably won’t be able to see it in theaters and will therefore be spoiled long before I actually get a chance to watch it. *sigh* Oh well. I’ll try to avoid spoilers; maybe I’ll actually succeed this time. I could just cut out all technology–I’m sure I can find some nice Amish community to join. I nearly did that back when half the episodes of Doctor Who Series 8 were leaked. XD

      • Thanks! I was excited to have made it that far! I will probably publish it at some point. I have some edits to make, and waiting on some beta feedback for that to happen. πŸ™‚

Aw thanks! I hope you enjoy the books when you get to them. πŸ™‚ And yay! I’m excited to finally share The Wolf Prince with everyone. I feel like I’ve been talking about it for 84 years and have had nothing to show for it. πŸ˜›

Haha! Bonus for having a ton of sisters that are also obsessed and will gladly drop everything to see Marvel movies opening day or soon after. But even within like 0.2 sec of the movies being out, it’s hard to avoid spoilers. πŸ˜›
