I’m excited to take part in another blog tour this month! I was asked by a blogger friend if I’d like to help and the book sounded really interesting and I always love helping out other authors, so here we are! 🙂 The Water Cave is the first book in Rachel Lopez’s series and I’ve asked her over to answer some questions on the book and the series in general. But first, here’s a bit about the book.

A sinister experiment gone wrong has come to haunt the life of an innocent girl sixteen years later. Injected with a serum developed by Satan himself, Meadow Fields discovers she is a transporter (a person with the unique ability to transfer their soul between hell and earth).

This striking young man, Mark Angel, has a deep connection with Meadow and wants to help her explore her new found ability.

An unfortunate accident forces Meadow to transport to hell where she is unable to make it back home. Alone and frightened she is faced with the horrors of Satan and his fiends. Time is not on Meadow’s side, the longer she is stuck in hell the more demon like her soul becomes. In the nick of time—and with the help of a newfound ally—Meadow’s soul makes it back to Earth with moments to spare. However, her world is torn apart once more when she is faced with the reality that her loved ones are not who she believed them to be.

The Interview

Welcome, Rachel! To start off, give us one fun fact about yourself.

I am an avid collector of hobbies. I quilt, craft, crochet, garden (not well), write, read, and try to make fancy cakes I see on Pinterest which never turn out as nice as the pictures.

Hehe! I’m still waiting for the day my culinary attempts turn out like the picture. What inspired The Water Cave?

The Water Cave came to me in a very odd dream. I tried to put it out of my mind but God had different plans. My intent in writing was to create works of art that make people cry, laugh, and feel good but God kept this story at the forefront of my mind and wouldn’t let up until I wrote it all down. Now I’m glad I listened and continued on with my story as book two is really turning out to be quite fun to write.

Stories that come from dreams tend to be some of the craziest and most powerful. 🙂 The Water Cave deals with Hell and Earth. What can we expect from the rest of the series?

Book two turns a little dark, we start with a young high school girl who discovers she has an unusual power of traveling to hell and back to earth but (and not to reveal to much) her life drastically changes by the end of book one and we see that change effect Meadow (our main character) almost immediately at the beginning of book two, The Cave of Darkness.

Sounds promising! What was the relative ease/difficulty of writing this book?

The ease in writing The Water Cave was it just kind of flowed from me rather quickly when I put fingers to keyboard. There were difficulties as I wanted to keep my writing interesting and not too preachy, but I always want to glorify God in what I do. My goal is not only to write clean content for Christian young adults, but to spark an interest in those who do not yet know Christ.

That’s a great goal, and sometimes for me, a bit of a difficult one. You’ll have to share any tips you have. 🙂 What gets you out of bed in the morning to write?

Well I usually don’t get to write until late at night before bed. That is an extremely hard time of day to write for me because by then the creative juices have started to dry up. However, I have to be sitting in the middle of my living room, tv full blast, kids running in and out to ask me questions, and dogs creating havoc before I can get down to business. When the house is quiet it unnerves me and nothing comes out.

Haha! I usually need some noise to focus as well. How long would you survive your book’s plot? 🙂

I like this question! It made me laugh mostly because I’m a wimp and I would have some sort of mental break down if I were in Meadows place. Traveling to hell, demon encounters, a tangle with Satan is more than my mind could take.

Yeah, sounds crazy intense. You get two books and a movie to keep you company for the next year. What do you choose?

Well as for the movie, I think I could watch Elf over and over. As a matter of fact, I watched the first DVD I purchased so much it stopped playing. Now the two books would be hard, but if I could have Anne of Green Gables and any of the Harry Potter books I would be content for quite a while

Book two in the Transporter Series: The Cave of Darkness is in the works and undergoing some heavy editing. My hopes would be to see it in print within the next year with book three, The Fire Cave, following that. I have several ideas brewing in my mind right now and one that is taking pretty good form that has me super excited.
