Dragons, Airships, & Death Unicorns

Howdy!

Today I’m so excited to bring you an author interview from Janeen Ippolito! I discovered her Ironfire Legacies books last year around when book 1 came out and I very quickly fell in love with this steampunk world full of dragon shifters, airship captains (more on this later), and political intrigue (I even learned how to spell intrigue specifically for this post :P)

I might have even possibly featured one of the last books on this blog? Ignore me as I do anything but search through the archives.

Anyway! You should definitely check them out because they are awesomely action packed, full of snark, and have a character named Shance Windkeeper who is basically just the best and is now even more awesome in this book. Hint – he’s the airship captain. And I’m quite in love.

Onward! First a little about the book before I start interrogating Janeen about a multitude of random things.

About the Book

One wild night, Shance Windkeeper discovers he is married to a death unicorn.

But that’s the least of his troubles.

As an agent for the Lawless, Shance is working with dragonshifters Kesia Ironfire and Zephryn Nightstalker, trying to end the dragon-human war and the organization that masterminded it. While on a mission in the Scepter of Knowledge, the Lawless is hit with a devastating death unicorn attack.

Out of the wreckage new allies emerge: Lirome Ukerys, and his twin sister Maira, the death unicorn queen—Shance’s long-lost wife.

Recently freed from captivity, Maira is fighting to regain control of her herd. Lurien Alistil, a rogue death unicorn, has bespelled the Scepter of Knowledge and taken Maira’s son. When Kesia unexpectedly challenges Lurien to a public debate, the Lawless has a chance to break the usurper’s hold. To obtain vital information they must infiltrate her lair—and as the husband of the death unicorn queen, Shance Windkeeper is the perfect prize to go in.

But Lurien’s power is stronger and more insidious than they realize. And if the final pieces of her plan fall into place, not even Shance’s newfound Talents and knowledge will be enough to stop her.

A steampunk fantasy adventure with much intrigue, unexpected romance, sudden tragedy, and a snarky cat-dragon.

Interview Time!

As I’ve never had you over for an interview before, let’s play a game. Describe yourself with a book or movie quote!

Oh gosh, seriously? There are too many to count! I’m a quote-a-holic. And Captain Jack Sparrow quotes are always good. I’m slightly addicted to problem solving, so this one will work.

Captain Jack Sparrow quotes are definitely always appropriate. What excites you most about Faithless?

That it’s done and out to readers! This was definitely one of my most ambitious books–of course, I’ll probably say that with every book I write, because I always go for crazy ideas and make them work.  But it was really wonderful writing Faithless because it was like a cross-over episode of several different TV series, with characters from all over the place showing up. I might have squee’d when Maira and Lirome met Kesia and Zephryn–and then later on, Nula shows up and look, there’s Zilpath and Ademis/Freckles! EEP!

*coughs* SAME! Which character consistently frustrates you? (From Faithless or another of your books.)

Probably Lirome and Zephryn, mostly because they hide their emotions and secrets, so I have to dig FOREVER to figure out what’s going on inside their heads.

Ha! I can totally see both of them being problem children. How long do you survive the plot of Faithless?

Haha, I’m probably very distracted by the city-state parks on the other side of the Cresida Inlet and miss all of the plot that happens in the Scepter of Knowledge proper.

You are stuck in a magic elevator with only three buttons. Floor 1 opens to a sleeping dragon, Floor 2 opens into a library where you might get chased by an angry cyborg, and Floor 3 opens to a spaceport preparing to launch a shuttle to a new planet. Which do you choose?

Bring on the new planet! I like new things. New things are shiny.

🙂 A ship you will ship until it falls off the edge of the map?

Jo March and Laurie Laurence from Little Women. Forever ‘n ever.

I’ll allow it. 😉 What fictional character do you most want to have dinner with?

Actually, Shance Windkeeper would be pretty fun! Especially if it’s on his airship. I understand why he and Kesia are friends. He’s a solid amount of chill and outgoing.

Can you get me an invite as well? 😉 And one more survival question! Let’s be honest. How long would you last in the zombie apocalypse?

Depends on if I can make it to my in-laws. If the car makes it, then the odds are pretty good. If not?

Braaaaaaaiiiiinssss…

Haha! Thanks so much to Janeen for stopping by! There’s a ton more fun planned for the launch of this epic book! Make sure you check out the party coming up later this month!
