Howdy!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving last week. I’m still recovering. 😛
Today I’m helping with a release day blitz for Faith Blum’s newest western novel, Lily of the Valley! Along with the release info, I’ve convinced Faith to come over for an interview as well. Before we get started, make sure you read all the way to the end for some great opportunities to get some of Faith’s books!
Here we go!
Howdy, Faith, and welcome back to The Overactive Imagination! I had a chance to interview you back in June. What have you been up to since then?
Writing and editing and lots of it. As a result, I have a new novel out, another novel coming soon, and four more novellas. I’m also seriously considering another series of novels that would be a slight spin-off from Lily of the Valley and one of my upcoming novellas.
Wow! You have been busy! That’s awesome. What excites you most about Lily of the Valley?
Lily of the Valley is a very different book from the others. Where the others had fairly strong characters, Ruth is more gentle and almost timid sometimes. I wanted to do something different by making the main character someone who isn’t so strong-minded except when she has to be.
Sometimes it’s nice to have a change of pace and have a more timid character. What was the hardest part of this book to write?
Keeping Ruth in character. She has to do some tough things during the story, and they sometimes eat at her.
You primarily write Westerns. Is there another genre you want to try?
I’ve dabbled a little in a couple other genres. I wrote a short sci-fi story about a cat for a contest that I’ve kind of fallen in love with. I’m also planning to write a contemporary fiction trilogy in the next year or so. Which leads me into the next question. 🙂
Those sound really neat! So what can we expect to see from you next?
As I mentioned in two of the other questions, I have a novel and four novellas written. They all need lots of editing, but I’m hoping to publish all five next year. One of the novellas is about two of the minor characters in Lily of the Valley. I also plan to publish an omnibus collection of the three novellas I currently have published.
I also have ideas for at least two novels for a spin-off series about orphans. Some of the characters in Lily of the Valley will be part of one of these novels and in the other one, characters from one of the novellas to be published next year will also make an appearance.
I’m also planning to write a contemporary trilogy about some of the descendants of Ruth.
How cool to write a spin off of a previous novel!
Now for some fun questions! Music! Everyone likes music. Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what do you listen to?
Yes, I do. I love listening to classical music and some soundtracks. I mostly listen to a couple of my Pandora stations.
You and me both! You get two books and a movie to keep you company for the next year. What do you choose?
The Holy Bible, Pride and Prejudice, and Unidentified.
Solid choices. What fictional character do you most want to have dinner with?
That’s a tough one. I think I’d have to pick Bradley Connors. He’s a character in one of my upcoming novellas and a very interesting character—in both senses of the word.
Haha! I’d love to have dinner with my characters. 🙂 That’s all my questions! Thanks for stopping by!
You’re very welcome! I’m glad you let me come.
Anytime! 🙂 Now here’s a little bit about the book!
Howdy, Teacher! You don’t know me, but my kids talk bout you a lot. I been lookin fer a wife and mother fer a few years and was wonderin iffen we cood meet and get to no each other a bit. I’ll come after skool to git yer answer. Grover Miller
Unruly schoolchildren, three suitors, and too many things to do. When Ruth Brookings rejects one of the suitors, he refuses to accept no for an answer.
To make matters worse, when she prays for guidance, she’s answered with a challenge instead: To encourage her friend to find a wife—whether he wants one or not.
Will she lose her friend just when she needs a friend the most? Will she be able to weather the storms she’s about to face?

Faith Blum started writing at an early age. She started even before she could read! She even thought she could write better than Dr. Seuss. (The picture doesn’t show it well, but there are scribblings on the page of Green Eggs and Ham). Now that she’s grown up a little more, she knows she will probably never reach the success of Dr. Seuss, but that doesn’t stop her from trying.
When she isn’t writing, Faith enjoys doing many right-brained activities such as reading, crafting, writing, playing piano, and playing games with her family. One of her dreams is to visit Castle City, Montana someday to see the ghost town she chose for her characters to live in. She currently lives on a hobby farm with her family in Wisconsin.
